The
Middle Tennessee Jr. League Cheerleaders Association is the official cheerleading association of the Middle Tennessee Jr.
Football League, which consists of Ashland City, Cheatham County, East Robertson, Greenbrier, Jo Byrns, Joelton, Pleasant
View, Portland, South Cheatham, Springfield, Station Camp and White House. These football games are for children ages 6-12. The cheerleading commissioners met in February to vote on re-establishing the association to
better communication efforts and unity. The goals of MTJLCA are to offer programs and training to enhance each city's program
and girls. Through MTJLCA they offer coach's training clinics, UCA cheer camp and an MTJLCA Pomfest cheerleading competition
to be held at the end of the season at the Springfield Civic Center.MTJLCA offers ways for communities to be more hospitable
with such awards as the Town Hospitality Award in which they are judged each time a city visits their facility. The commissioner
with the "friendliest" city receives this award at Pomfest. Also, at
the UCA cheer camp they will learn a "unity" dance and will perform it with other cheerleaders from other cities
at the regular season games during halftime.Another way to reward the cities is through MTJLCA's Coach of the Year award.
Through this award, one coach is selected from each city as that city's Coach of the Year, then submitted to MTJLCA for
an overall winner to be announced at Pomfest. At Pomfest, the cities are judged
for two different categories. One is hospitality toward other teams during competition in the President's Award, and another
one is the Town Spirit Award in which each city competes to show who has the most spirit. The commissioners take those awards
home and have bragging rights for the next year. The overall winner award in each age group (7/8, 9/10 and 11/12) will perform
in the MTJFL's Superbowl during halftime of the appropriate age group. Pomfest
is scheduled for Nov. 1 from 2-6 p.m.Each city in the MTJFL is invited to participate in MTJLCA's 2009 program. The groups
signed up so far for are Ashland City, East Robertson, Jo Byrns, Springfield and Station Camp. The deadline for sign-ups is
June 1. For info about the Station Camp Cheer Association Email our Cheer
